Frequently asked questions – Nyon Canyon
➡️ What makes the Nyon Canyon different from the Balme Canyon ?
The Nyon Canyon stands out for its dramatic setting: a deeply carved gorge in the Aulps valley, with spectacular rock faces and dense vegetation. The water flow is stronger than Balme, making the abseils under waterfalls more intense and the pools more powerful. It's a step up in terms of immersion and thrills.
➡️ From what age can you do the Nyon Canyon ?
The Nyon Canyon is accessible from age 12, provided participants are in good physical shape and comfortable in the water. It's a sporty, intermediate-level route — not an expert canyon, but clearly more demanding than the family canyon.
➡️ How long does the Nyon Canyon outing last ?
Allow around 3 hours. The meeting point is at the Nyon cable car car park in Morzine, from where the group carpools together to the canyon start. Morning slot at 10:00 am or afternoon at 2:00 pm — to be confirmed with the guide.
➡️ What is the price for the Nyon Canyon ?
€60 per adult, €55 for children under 14. All equipment is provided: wetsuit, neoprene socks, helmet, harness and descender.
➡️ Which resorts are closest to the Nyon Canyon ?
The Nyon Canyon is closest to Morzine — just 5 minutes from the village centre. It's also 10 minutes from Les Gets and 20 minutes from Avoriaz. A great option for combining canyoning with a stay in the Portes du Soleil area.
➡️ When is the Nyon Canyon season ?
June to September only. The season starts later than Balme because the Nyon Canyon is more exposed to spring flooding from snowmelt at altitude. July and August offer the best conditions.
➡️ What should I bring for the Nyon Canyon ?
Swimsuit, towel, and lace-up sports shoes or hiking shoes — water shoes are not allowed. Also bring a change of clothes for afterwards. All technical equipment is provided by Yaute Canyon.
➡️ Is the Nyon Canyon suitable for complete beginners ?
It's accessible to beginners who are in good shape and genuinely comfortable in the water. If it's your very first canyoning experience and you're not very sporty, the family canyon or the Balme canyon are better starting points. The Nyon Canyon is ideal for those ready to take things up a notch.
